Three Heritage Railways To Host The 'Flying Scotsman'

The Bluebell Railway in East Sussex, the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway in West Yorkshire, and the West Somerset Railway, which run trains between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard in the West Country, have recently been announced as the three heritage railways that will be hosting 60103 (4472) Flying Scotsman events in 2017.

Speaking about the Flying Scotsman heritage railway appearances, Paul Kirkman, National Railway Museum Director said: "It was a tough decision with a consistently high quality of bids submitted from a wide range of heritage railway companies.  After a successful tour in 2016, we weren't surprised with how many bids we received to host Scotsman.  We hope the public who will journey to view or travel behind the locomotive will join us in welcoming Flying Scotsman to there historic railways".

Matthew Stoch, Chairman of Keighley and Worth Valley Railway said: "We are incredibly excited about Flying Scotsman visiting the Worth Valley, especially before our 150th celebrations of our branch line".

Paul Conibeare, General Manager at West Somerset Railway, added: "We're proud to have been selected as one of only three heritage railways to host Flying Scotsman in 2017 and are looking forward to promoting a successful and safe event".

While Dick Fearn, Chairman of The Bluebell Railway, added: "The Bluebell Railway is delighted to have secured the services of Flying Scotsman for a special week of operations. Since opening the line to East Grinstead in 2013, the appearance of Scotsman will give thousands of people from London and the south east a chance to enjoy this renowned locomotive in the delightful surroundings of the Sussex countryside".

Appearance dates at the heritage railways have yet to be announced.  Details of dates, times and ticket prices will be provided by each of the railways concerned on their websites at a later date.

The National Railway Museum would like to emphasize that tickets for Flying Scotsman will be available from each heritage railway website; NOT from the NRM website.
