London Trains To Operate In Wales

2017 may see the easing of overcrowding on some Arriva Trains Wales rail services, which at some times has left some passengers unable to board at their local station, if plans to use former Gatwick Express rolling stock can be introduced.

New trains have replaced older trains on the route between London Victoria and Gatwick Airport.

As well as extra training needed before some of Arriva Trains Wales employees could operate the trains, the new rolling stock would have to receive a number of small technical modifications before the former Gatwick Express trains would be able to work with diesel locomotives.

Ken Skates, Welsh infrastructure secretary, said this month that officials were now talking to the rail industry in the hope of securing a short-term boost to the train fleet.

If agreement can be reached soon with the trains' owner, the rail industry's regular timetable change date in May would be an obvious target for introduction of the former Gatwick Express trains to Wales and Borders services.
