Chiltern Railways diesel multiple unit, (DMU), Class 168005 Turbostar, waits for the green light at Banbury station before heading off to Moor St. station, Birmingham, in May 2017.

Clubman diesel multiple units, such as Class 168005 commuter passenger trains, were constructed between 1998 and 2004, with the earliest examples entering service on the 20th May 1998.

In all, 19 trainsets were built with 2/3/4 cars per set.  With a top speed of 100 mph (160 km/h), 4-car unit Class 168005 offers 272 seats with air-conditioning throughout.

The 168 Clubman Class of dmu can be found operating on the Chiltern Main Line, London to Aylesbury Line, London Marylebone - Oxford, Princes Risborough - Aylesbury Line.

Network South East, then operated by British Rail, originally planned the Class 168 for their expansion of services on the Chiltern Main Line to Birmingham Snow Hill or New Street stations. In the event, privatisation put and end to the NSE plans.

Single-car Class 153 153370 Super Sprinter DEMU, based on a Leyland bus chassis, in GWR green livery, enters Truro railway station, Cornwall, operating a late afternoon commuter service in mid-June 2017.

***********************************************************

The sprinter Class 153 diesel multiple units were built by Leyland Bus between 1987 and 1988 as two-coach units before being converted to single-car units in 1991/92 by Hunslet-Barclay.

Class 153370 was allocated to Exeter St. Davids.
Class 153370 unit coach numbers as follows: 57370.

A 'grab-shot' that very nearly didn't happen as I was totally unaware this diesel multiple unit (strange name for a single-car train) was approaching!

Late evening, on the 11th April 2017, a Derby to London train of new London Underground S1 rolling stock paused for around forty-five minutes at Banbury railway station.

Motive power for the train were four classic Class 20 diesel locomotives.  Heading the train were Class 20107, built in December 1961, and Class 20096 built in October 1961, both in BR standard livery.

At the rear of the train, in Harry Needle Railroad Company livery, were Class 20314, built in February 1962, and Class 20311, built in December 1961.

The new London Underground stock, sandwiched between the four ageing diesel locomotives, built by Bombardier in Derby, have air-conditioning, more space, improved accessibility and better customer information systems.

The trains have an increased passenger capacity of up to 25%, compared with their predecessors, while providing enhanced comfort.
